Sublimity: Pathways to Peace meditation

Individual Experience of Suffering

Whether you or someone you know is experiencing hardship, disappointment, struggles or other misfortunes, we cannot help but ask why.

At such times it is important that we remind ourselves that the Soul’s purpose while on earth is Illumination.  Thus whatever form of suffering is being experienced it is not an end in and of itself but an opportunity we receive to help us live more consciously and ultimately to grow spiritually.   So situations like poverty, isolation, unemployment, illness, unrequited love, abuse of one form or another, whatever it is, they are not created just to torment us or punish us.  They are opportunities for self-reflection and self-awareness as to why we need to be living through this.  The key is the learning behind the circumstance that presents.   This understanding can bring about in us new ways of responding and with that comes healing and peace as a result of breaking old patterns that are the cause of the created suffering.

Focus of the Meditation

To penetrate the meaning behind a past or present situation in your life that you experience or experienced as particularly challenging.  Try to gain a deeper understanding of what it is you need to learn from that experience about yourself.

Meditation Reflection

At the root of all distress is the question of love.   How can this happen to me?  Am I not sufficiently worthy of better treatment – that is, am I not worthy of love or greater love?  Reaffirm to the self:  I have been loved, I am loved, I will be loved.  See it thus and distance the self from ego-based conclusions about your circumstance.
