MARCH MEDITATION PROGRAM
THEME: COMPASSION
The theme of compassion is the focus of the meditations during the month of March. Compassion is the path to understanding and tolerance, not to be misunderstood as acceptance of negative behaviours. As compassion flowers within each and is allowed by you to be given expression in your life, you will come to appreciate that the way of compassion is the path to healing aggression both on an individual and global level.
The meditations can be done in whichever order you wish. Select the one you are drawn to at any given time; repeat any of them as often as you like. However, you are encouraged to try all of them since together they form a cohesive framework for building up the compassionate self.
Reflections on Compassion
Find the seed of compassion within the self and allow it to blossom. What does the compassion seed need to take root and grow? First, it is a matter of going within to acknowledge the existence of compassion deep inside you no matter whether you feel there is observable evidence of the same or not in your day-to-day behaviours. Know that it is there, awaiting your intentions. Thus, the next step is to consciously put forth compassion as your first response to all that presents in your existence. This means setting aside the tendency and instinct to judge what occurs in your life and that of others. Gently resist the urge to want to label what transpires as good or bad, catastrophic or brilliant, hateful or loving. Instead of condemnation or praise, practice the art of observation for that is true compassion. Through self-reflection you cultivate the viewer in you to deepen your self-awareness. Observe what transpires with a view to determining if it is behaviour that advances well being or creates disharmony. Such observation is with the purpose of each determining future right action for them self.
We learn from our experiences; we learn from reflecting on the play of life. Observing in order to learn and grow is a compassionate approach to the self and others. Observing to make pronouncements about a situation is the judgemental path that is not conducive to positive movement. An attitude that seeks to heal a situation is compassion. Humility in the face of the unspeakable is compassion for none has the full picture of what transpires within another that causes the undesirable behaviours. The compassionate way seeks to assist with healing rather than simply judging.
